According to a representative of the Foundation for Iranian Studies in Bethesda, Maryland, the Iranian Azeris are treated the same as any other Iranians; the representative has never heard anything regarding Iranian government discrimination against Iranian Azeris (17 Jan. 1996). The representative added that many Iranian leaders are Azeris themselves.

Other sources consulted by the DIRB do not refer to any specific type of treatment of the Iranian Azeris by the Iranian government.

The attached section of Iran: A Country Study on the Iranian Azeris might be useful.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
