According to a Radio Free Europe report, a law "outlining the future draft for the Lithuanian armed forces" was passed in July 1991, but not implemented (4 Jan. 1991, 53). However, in November 1991, Radio Vilnius Network reported that a military draft began in the Silute rayon [district] of Lithuania (FBIS-SOV-91-220 14 Nov. 1991, 38). A January 1992 report from Radio Vilnius states that eight youths deserted from the Lithuanian army (BBC Summary 29 Jan. 1992). Please see the attached articles for further details.

There is no information currently available to the IRBDC on requirements for reserve or regular military service in Lithuania, or on whether reserves have recently been called into service.
