Information on a union takeover of the Diana S.A. factory during the guerilla offensive of November 1989 could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC. However, according to the El Salvador Chronology published by the El Rescate Human Rights Department, the Diana S.A. factory in the Soyapango district of San Salvador was occupied by the guerillas on 14 November 1989 (El Rescate Human Rights Department Nov. 1989). Soyapango was the scene of intense fighting from the onset of the FMLN offensive on 11 November 1989. The same area was subjected to strafing and bombing by Salvadoran Air Force planes during the initial stages of the Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) offensive (FBIS-LAT-89-219 15 Nov. 1989).
On 16 November 1989, the Diana S.A. factory was reported to be on fire (El Rescate Human Rights Department Nov. 1989). The factory was "owned by wealthy rightist politician Hugo Barrera" (Ibid.). On the same day of the fire, heavy fighting was reported in Soyapango with the "entire Parachutists Battalion, two companies of the Belloso and two companies of PRAL troops in combat" (Ibid.).
Further information on the subject could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC.
