An on-line search of sources regularly consulted was unable to produce any information on the above subject. A Helsinki Watch report entitled "Decommunization in Bulgaria", which is available at your Regional Documentation Centre, discusses legislation which among others things banned certain categories of individuals from public office for five years, and from positions in the executive bodies of scientific organizations and the Higher Certifying Commission (Aug. 1993, 4). These positions include, among others, "staff or voluntary collaborators of the State Security or the Security and Guards Department" (ibid. 4, 8).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find attached the list of sources consulted in researching this information request.
