Reports indicate that the Nicaraguan Resistance (Resistencia Nicaragüense - RN) is a rebel group formed in 1981 under sponsorship of the Reagan administration. (1) It is reported as having representatives in the United States, Costa Rica and Guatemala, (2) although no permanent residence in those countries is indicated for any of them, except for Azucena Ferrey, who is an RN leader and spokesperson for the Alliance of Nicaraguan Women (Alianza de Mujeres Nicaragüenses) living in the United States. (3) Recent divisions within the RN are reported both in Nicaraguan and Costa Rican media. (4) No additional reports on the Alliance of Nicaraguan Women or the treatment of members of either of the abovementioned groups in Costa Rica are available at present at the IRBDC, Ottawa. The attached documents contain background and recent information on the RN group.
