According to a professor specializing in Bangladeshi affairs in the Department of Politics, Economics and Society at the State University of New York at Old Westbury, Bengali, which is the official language of Bangladesh, is the langauge used on arrest warrants (12 May 1994). However, as a possibility, an arrest warrant may be issued in English if an accused person "insists" (ibid.). Although Bangladeshi law states that copies of arrest warrants must be given to accused persons, in practice Bangladeshi authorities usually do not provide these persons with copies of warrants (ibid.). The professor adds that the law also requires that copies of arrest warrants must be delivered in person. However, if there is a necessity, it is possible that copies be mailed (ibid.).
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
