There is no reference to a trade union with the acronym SIMBAS in the sources currently available to the IRBDC. However, there is a reference to a trade union called "Industrial Mechanics and Basic Metallic Workers Union" (Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Industria Mec nica y Met licas B sicas) known by its Spanish acronym STIMMB. This union is affiliated to the umbrella workers organization Unión Nacional de Trabajadores Salvadoreños (UNTS), the largest in the country. [1].

Regarding UNTS, please find attached a news report on the recent Canadian tour by a member of its executive with the purpose of publicizing the human rights abuses against members of this union in recent years [2] Also, find attached a series of news report from the Online Database Services available to the IRBDC.
