Information on the above-mentioned topic could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, please find attached an 8 February 1990 Latin American Regional Reports: Southern Cone report stating that "car and tyre manufacturers had announced the temporary lay-off of some 10,000 workers" as a result of the government's deflationary measures (3). Also attached, please find some articles referring to Autolatina (the holding company for Ford and Volkswagen operations in Brazil and Argentina) operations and problems in 1990.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
