Syrian Arab Republic

 According to Reuters, the main Kurdish guerilla groups

represented in the Syrian capital are the Kurdish Democratic

Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (6 Apr. 1991). An

estimated 600,000 Kurds live in the impoverished northeast of

Syria, near the Iraqi and Turkish borders (Ibid.).
