For information on the above-mentioned subject please refer to the attached copy of the Pakistan Citizenship Act, 1951. Additionally, a representative of the High Commission for Pakistan in Ottawa stated that the Pakistani nationality is governed by the citizenship of the male spouse (5 July 1994). Children of male Pakistani citizens are entitled to Pakistan citizenship provided their father submits an application for a Pakistan Registration Certificate to the High Commission of Pakistan in his country of residence. It is on the basis of this registration certificate that the children will obtain passports (ibid.).
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
