Information on the above-mentioned topics could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, the attached excerpt of the Council of Europe's March 1996 European Bulletin on Nationality provides up-to-date information on Portuguese nationality legislation, including the texts in force, main principles and provisions, and recent legislative developments. The attached excerpt from Juris-Classeur Nationalité on Portuguese nationality provides information on conferment of Portuguese nationality by affiliation, including to children born out of wedlock. A copy of the October 1981 Portuguese nationality act and an unofficial provisional translation of the Portuguese nationality regulations are available upon request from the DIRB.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
