According to a representative of Asia Watch in New York, most of the Kuwaiti armed forces personnel are bedouins who, as a group, are denied Kuwaiti nationality. As for Kuwaiti nationals in the Kuwaiti army, their rights have not been violated either by the Kuwait government or by the State Security Forces (Asia Watch 19 Oct. 1992). However, the same source indicates that some Kuwaiti nationals who had been members of the Kuwaiti armed forces at the time of the Iraqi invasion have been brought to trial for collaborating with the enemy. However, they have not been accused of desertion. All of those sentenced so far have received fair trials, even though one person received the death penalty (Ibid.).
Additional and/or corroborating information is currently unavailable to the DIRB in Ottawa.
