Please consult the 9 October 1995 Miami Herald, 19 April 1996 National Catholic Reporter, and the May and July 1996 Centroamerica articles attached to this response. These articles provide information on the treatment of a National Civil Police (PNC, Policía National Civil) officer of the who reported on police involvement in death squad activities.

Also please find attached media reports that provide information on internal and external investigations of the PNC, and on impunity of PNC members known to be involved in criminal activities and corruption.

Information on whether state protection is available could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints.
