According to an official from the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Ottawa, Jerba is an island located in the coastal waters of Tunisia and Ras el-Jedeer is an area located on both sides of the border between Tunisia and Libya (20 Dec. 1994). The official stated that the passport of a Libyan citizen travelling from Libya to Tunisia would be stamped for entry by the Tunisian authorities at Jerba airport and at the Tunisian border post at Ras el-Jedeer. Information on whether the Libyan authorities stamp the passports of Libyan citizens for exit at Ras el-Jedir is currently unavailable to the DIRB in Ottawa.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
