An official with the Aviation Group of Transport Canada stated that Canada has no way of knowing what airlines from other countries may have stopovers in northern Somalia (2 Dec. 1991). The official also suggested that there may not be enough traffic into northern Somalia to warrant regularly scheduled flights, but did not rule out the possibility of irregular freight or passenger flights to this area (Ibid.).

An oral source from a non-governmental organization which does work in northern Somalia indicated that there are two small planes owned by private businessmen based in Djibouti which fly into northern Somalia, and a flight by Air Afrique, based in East Africa, which flies through Mogadishu to Berbera (3 Dec. 1991). The source was not aware of any other flights to northern Somalia (Ibid.).

Clerks from three major airlines indicated that there were no regularly scheduled flights into Hargeisa or Berbera (3 Dec. 1991).

A representative of a local travel agency stated that it is possible to fly into northern Somalia, but could not provide details without additional information regarding the date, place of departure and destination (3 Dec. 1991).
