In April 1998 a magistrate ordered the release of the former Governor of the State of Veracruz, Dante Delgado Rannauro, and two of his aides who were also under arrest, due to "insufficient evidence to support the prosecution's case" (AP 4 Apr. 1998). One of the charges originally laid against Delgado, failing to disclose his assets when in public office, "automatically barred him from holding public office for 10 years;" however, his attorney was expected to request the lifting of that sanction (ibid.).
On 1 December 1998 a political review of Mexico reported that the movement created by Dante Delgado from his prison cell, Convergencia por la Democracia, had started to campaign as a party (Mexico & NAFTA Report).
