Sri Lanka: Follow-up to Response to Information Request LKA25597.E of 18 February 1997 on the security check procedures performed on Jaffna Tamils in Vavuniya who wish to go to Colombo; on the information provided on the pass that clears Jaffna Tamils for travel to Colombo, on whether the pass is needed to cross the various checkpoints and whether it is required upon arrival in Colombo; on the type of security checks carried out on Jaffna Tamils leaving by boat; on the numbers of Jaffna Tamils travelling by land and by boat to Colombo; on whether the same individuals are regularly or frequently detained, released, and then detained again, and on whether the police detain and release an individual on condition that he report to the police station every few days or weekly; on the number of round-ups in Colombo and the treatment of detainees; and on whether any recourse is available to individuals who feel their treatment during detention was improper, 1 March 1997
