Cuba: Government crackdown on dissent

Comments:
This document chronicles the actions taken over the past few months by the Cuban Government to prevent unofficial groups of various kinds from freely exercising their rights to freedom of association, assembly and expression. In particular, it traces the history of Concilio Cubano, Cuban Concilium, a coalition of some 140 unofficial groups which was established in October 1995, against whom the authorities launched a major operation in February 1996 resulting in the imprisonment of two of its leaders. Other members of groups belonging to Concilio Cubano are likely to face trial.
