Press and media are free; the government runs the only radio station. Nauru has no daily news publication, but three private bulletins are printed on a weekly or monthly basis. The radio station broadcasts Radio Australia and BBC news reports. Nauru Television is also government-owned, but there is a private sports network. The government provides Internet service; because Nauru's telecommunications system is weak, service was unavailable for two months in January. Factional politics have resulted in parliament's replacing the president five times in the past year, prompting occasional, sporadic newsletters from opposition parties.
