MAKHACHKALA, Russia – Unknown assailants have shot dead a well-known businessman in Russia's volatile North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan.

Local authorities say the owner of the Versal construction company, Ruslan Muduyev, was gunned down in Daghestan's capital, Makhachkala, late on January 11.

No further details were available.

Meanwhile, security forces killed two men on January 12 during a shootout in Daghestan's central Kizilyurt district.

Details are still coming in on that incident, as well.
