Constitution of Tonga

Comments:
The Constitution, Cap. 2, is also referred as the Act of Constitution of Tonga. Revised edition of the Constitution as at 2016. Provides for naturalisation of a foreigner resident in Tonga for five years or more at s 29 and for King and Legislative Assembly to enact laws declaring any person to be naturalized subjects of Tonga whether or not they have resided in Tonga at s 29A. The latest amendments included here were: - the Act of Constitution of Tonga (Amendment) Act 1990, No. 12 of 1990; and - the Act of Constitution of Tonga (Amendment) Act 1991, No. 1 of 1991. The subsidiary legislation: Privy Council (Court of Appeal) Rules and the Proclamation made by the King on the 7 November 1980, G. 165/1980 are attached at the end for reference.
