Laws restrict journalists by prohibiting the violating of the reputation, rights, and privacy of citizens, and threats to public safety, morality, or health. Independent newspapers criticize the government, but official domination and threats of libel suits restrict media freedom. The one daily newspaper is government-owned, and others are run by the ruling party. Opposition parties publish newsletters but the opposition weekly has been sued repeatedly for libel. The state-run Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation provides coverage of the opposition.
