Self-censorship by journalists is rife when covering national security, governmental policies, religion, and the ruling families. Newspapers and magazines are privately owned but receive government subsidies. Foreign publications are censored. The state runs all broadcast media and provides only its own views. Satellite dishes bring in uncensored foreign telecasts. The UAE is the most Internet-connected nation in the Arab world.
