November 10, 1992, in Diyarbakir, Turkey
Aktay, a freelancer, was killed in Hani, Diyarbakir Province. According to some reports, he was killed, execution-style, during a raid by guerrillas of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK). One account, however, suggests that he was the unintended victim of a PKK attack on a nearby military target.
