February 17, 1995, in near Oran, Algeria

Ziater, a reporter with the government-run, Arabic-language daily El-Djoumhouria, was shot to death while visiting his mother's grave in the Gdiel Cemetery, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) outside the city of Oran.
