This year Article 19 has been involved with the 'Enough Food IF' campaign. IF the world produces enough food for everyone, why do 1 in 8 people not have enough to eat?
On 8 June David Cameron is holding an international Hunger Summit in London. On the same day the 'Enough Food IF' campaign is holding a rally in Hyde Park to show him and other leaders that we expect action on hunger at the G8.
The 'Enough Food IF' campaign calls on decision-makers to focus on four key areas which could mean that everyone has enough food:
AID: Enough Food For Everyone IF we give life-saving aid to stop children dying from hunger and help the poorest families feed themselves
LAND: Enough Food For Everyone IF we stop poor farmers being forced off their land, and we grow crops for food, not fuel.
TAX: Enough Food For Everyone IF governments stop big companies dodging tax in poor countries, so millions of people can free themselves from hunger.
TRANSPARENCY: Enough Food For Everyone IF governments and big companies are honest about their actions that stop people getting enough food
Thousands of volunteers are working to plant a quarter of a million flowers in the shape of an enormous cooking pot, held by human hands. But the pot is empty. On the day of the rally, you will have the chance to make your own flower and plant it in the empty space - filling the cooking pot with food to call on G8 leaders to make 2013 the beginning of the end of hunger.
