No reports from Canadian media sources regarding the High Commission for the Republic of Uganda, Ottawa, were found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

On 9 August 2000, however, New Vision reported that the High Commission for the Republic of Uganda in Ottawa was one of Uganda's missions abroad due to close because of lack of resources. Missions in Rome, Moscow, Abuja, Paris, Bonn, and Havana were also closed (ibid.). On 10 November 2000, however, an official at the High Commission in Ottawa told the Research Directorate that the mission was still open.

Commenting on the situation in 1999, Ugandan Members of Parliament on the Committee on Presidential and Foreign Affairs stated that "there have been reports in the press about Uganda's embassy in Washington having a leaking roof, disrepair of Uganda House in New York, troubles at the country's High Commissions in London and Ottawa, Canada, unpaid bills from our embassy in Brussels ... the list is endless" (The Monitor 27 July 1999).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please see below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
