The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) of Peru reports that the mayors of the Metropolitan Lima district of El Agustino were:
-1993-1995: Jesús F. Cisneros Rojas, of the Obras political group;
-1995- 1998: Francisco Antiporta Laymito, of the C90-NM group;
- 1998-2002: Francisco Antiporta Laymito, of the Vamos Vecino group (4 Feb. 2002).
The ONPE also provides the following roster of municipal councillors (regidores) for the 1998-2002 period, as of January 2001:
-1st councillor (1er regidor): Carlos Elias Romo Retes (Vamos Vecino)
-2nd councillor: Jorge Alberto Vales Carrillo (Vamos Vecino)
-3rd councillor: Cesar Orlando Rodriguez Castro (Vamos Vecino)
-4th councillor: Clara Guardia Taype (Vamos Vecino)
-5th councillor: Maria Arias Pebe de Lopez (Vamos Vecino)
-6th councillor: Julia Inocente Romero (Vamos Vecino)
-7th councillor: Juan Lorenzo Agip Uriarte (Vamos Vecino)
-8th councillor: Silvano Mallma Alvites (Somos Peru)
-9th councillor: Prospero Piñas Gomez (Somos Peru)
-10th councillor: Bertha Yolanda Condori Palomino (Union Por El Peru)
-11th councillor: Victor Romero Mendez (Independent List "Rebirth of El Agustino" – L.I. de Renacer de El Agustino) (ONPE 2001).
Although the district mayor of El Agustino, Francisco Antiporta Laymito, is mentioned as a pro-Fujimori political figure (Caretas 23 July 1998; ibid. 11 Dec. 1997), no reports of scandals, arrests or threats relating to him or other named political figures of El Agustino could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. No references to a councillor of El Agustino with the name indicated in the information request could be found among the sources consulted.
A document published by the Peruvian tax authority ( Superintendencia Nacional de Administración Tributaria, SUNAT) on 5 July 1999 names councillor Carlos Romo Retez as the Deputy Mayor (Teniente Alcalde) and acting mayor of El Agustino. However, a more recent report refers again to Francisco Antiporta Laymito as the mayor of El Agustino and the signatory of a new by-law (ordenanza) of the district (Teleley 31 Mar. 2002).
