In a telephone interview of 28 January 1998, an official of the Permanent Mission of the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya to the United Nations stated that it would not be possible to obtain a copy of the Libyan law regarding citizenship. He also stated that this law has not been translated into English. He went on to say that the Libyan Mission to the UN  would be prepared to attempt to answer any specific questions regarding Libyan citizenship.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
