Iran is due to begin military exercises along its border with Iraq on October 29.
A senior army commander, General Saeed Arabloo, told the semiofficial ISNA news agency that the three-day drill will include air and ground forces.
He said the aim of the exercise is to upgrade the capabilities of the Iranian forces. He did not elaborate.
Iran and Iraq fought an eight-year war in the 1980s that left about 1 million dead on the both sides.
The planned military exercises come as Iran faces mounting international criticism over its nuclear program by the West, which fears it is aimed at developing nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies.
