In a telephone interview on 9 February 1995, the head of the "Service des droits des femmes" in Paris stated that the text of the French Penal Code was totally re-formed with the introduction of the 1992 amendments. The source indicated that in the previous code there was no reference to domestic violence or spousal abuse in these specific terms, and that these concepts have been introduced with the 1992 amendments.

For further information on the 1992 amendments to the Penal Code of France as it deals with the issue of domestic violence and spousal abuse, please refer to the attached document.
