As per response to Information Request GHA9271 the most

serious coup attempt took place in mid-September of 1989

(Africa Confidential 20 Oct. 1989). Major Courage

Quarshigah, who was subsequently detained, is reported to have

masterminded the coup attempt. The following people appear on the Amnesty International (AI Index: AFR 28/02/90) list of those detained in connection with the abortive coup attempt:

Captain J.S. Atengdem Chris Anematey Simon
