Information on social services available to displaced persons in Colombo is scarce since 1994. In the 16 May 1994 issue of its review, the Colombo-based Law and Society Trust (LST) provides a general overview on government services available to the internally displaced in Sri Lanka, including in Colombo. These services include the provision of food, housing, employment and access to health and education facilities. Further information on this subject could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, for your information, attached are several documents providing information on the living conditions of the internally displaced in 1992 and 1993. Also attached please find an extract from Sri Lanka: A Country Study published in 1990 which provided background information on social services available in Sri Lanka. These documents may be of interest.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
