According to the Director of the Information Centre of the Bulgarian Community, the Centre was formed in response to the recent influx of Bulgarians claiming refugee status into Canada. The intention of the service is to provide information about Bulgaria to lawyers and judges involved in dealing with Bulgarian refugee claimants. The Centre is made up of volunteers, primarily Bulgarian immigrants to Canada, and receives no funding. The Centre's primary sources of information appear to be two journalists from Bulgaria who have been in Canada for approximately a year.
