Several reports on clashes between the BNP, the AL and the government have been published since 1997. For details of these clashes, please consult the attached documents. For an overview of the dynamic of confrontation between the BNP and the AL, please consult the article by Badruddin Umar published in the Dhaka Courier on 26 February 1999. In the 6 March 1998 edition of the same newspaper, Rezaul Karim wrote an article on the dialogue which was taking place between the AL and the BNP at the time.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
