The Interior Ministry of the Kabardino-Balkaria republic in Russia's North Caucasus region has announced that a number of high-ranking officials and a local businesswoman have been arrested on corruption charges.

The ministry said the officials were arrested after they allegedly used their powers to illegally secure the purchase of a state-owned property by the businesswoman, Madina Khatsukova.

All the suspects are reportedly related through extended family ties.

The ministry said Deputy Minister of State Property Ruslan Zhamborov and presidential office head Vladimir Zhamborov are among the suspects.

The exact number of people detained so far in the investigation was not announced.
