Syria's state television says an air force general has been killed in a Damascus suburb.
The broadcaster reported on October 30 that "armed terrorist groups assassinated General Abdullah Mahmud al-Khalidi" in Rukn al-Din district.
It was the latest in a string of attacks on figures from President Bashar al-Assad's administration.
Also on October 30, there were reported clashes between rebel forces and troops backed by Palestinian fighters at a refugee camp near Damascus.
Meanwhile, United Nations and Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi arrived in China to seek support for his efforts to stop the violence in Syria.
In Moscow on October 29, he said the crisis in Syria was "bad and getting worse."
Activists say more than 35,000 people have been killed since the uprising against Assad's government started in March 2011.
