A police officer has been killed by unknown assailants in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan.
Local authorities say Captain Yakub Alimirzuyev was shot dead near his house in the village of Kahdzhalmakhi on the night of February 7.
An investigation has been launched into the killing.
The incident took place one day after two policemen were shot and wounded by unknown attackers in Daghestan's capital – Makhachkala, and a policeman was killed in another of the region's republics – Kabardino-Balkaria.
Violence between Islamic militants and police in the troubled North Caucasus region leaves scores of people dead and injured each year.
The region's most violence-plagued republics include Daghestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, and Chechnya.
