In a 10 September 1996 telephone interview, an Air India official at London's Heathrow International Airport stated that Air India operations in London take place at Heathrow International Airport. The official stated that Indian nationals travelling on Air India flights who are in transit at Heathrow may enter the transit lounge without having their documents checked (ibid.). The official also stated that Air India officials are required to check the passports and boarding passes of all passengers, including passengers in transit, before they enter any Air India aircraft.

For information on transit procedures at Heathrow International Airport, please refer to Response to Information Request ZZZ24633.E of 19 July 1996 which is available at Regional Documentation Centres.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
