Authorities have sealed off a high-security zone in the Indian capital for a second day to put an end to a week of demonstrations against the brutal gang rape of a woman on a moving municipal bus.

With police blocking roads in central New Delhi, dozens of demonstrators on gathered on December 25 at a venue about a kilometer from the parliament building to press the government to ensure the security of women.

A police officer injured in clashes with protesters on December 23 has died in a hospital two days later.

Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said authorities have filed murder charges against some protesters alleged to have been involved in the clashes.
