Iraqi officials say gunmen have killed four anti-Al-Qaeda fighters during an attack on a checkpoint north of Baghdad.
The victims were part of a group of so-called Sahwa fighters manning a checkpoint near the city of Dujail, 80 kilometers north of Baghdad, on August 10.
The Sahwa are Sunni Arabs who joined forces with the U.S. military to fight Al-Qaeda at the height of Iraq's insurgency.
They have since been regularly targeted by Sunni insurgents who see them as traitors.
Elsewhere on August 10, in the eastern Diyala province, three police officers were killed in a bomb explosion in the city of Al-Muqdadiyah.
And just outside the city of Haditha, in Anbar province northwest of the capital, a city councilman was killed when gunmen fired on his car.
