Ukraine's General Investigative Directorate has said that a person who might have been involved in the presumed killing of an independent journalist was identified.

According to the directorate, one of the closest associates of Vasyl Klymentyev – chief editor of the weekly "Novy Stil" (New Style) in the eastern city of Kharkiv – is a suspect in the high-profile case.

The suspect's name was not made public.

Klymentyev disappeared in August 2010.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Klymentyev was last seen on August 11 near Kharkiv's "Sportivna" metro station, getting into a BMW automobile with an unknown man.

Klymentyev's colleagues have said that his disappearance is connected to his professional activities as his newspaper had reported on alleged corruption of at least four local officials in 2010.
