Turkish police say a U.S. woman who was found dead in Istanbul was apparently killed by a blow to her head.
Huseyin Capkin, the Istanbul police chief, is quoted as saying investigators believe it is "certain" that Sarai Sierra, 33, died from the head injury.
Reports said police had detained at least 11 people for questioning in connection with the death of the woman from New York City.
Sierra, the mother of two young children, was found dead February 2 near the ruins of ancient Istanbul city walls.
Sierra was last heard from on January 21. She had come to Istanbul earlier in January to work on her photography.
The U.S. State Department has thanked Turkey for its efforts to locate the woman and investigate the case.
