Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, as amended

Please note that a Constitution Reform Commission has been established by Act no. 16 of 2022 (and see amendment Act no. 5 of 2024) to review the Constitution. The Constitution was enacted by the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana 1980 (Act No. 2 of 1980), which was passed by the National Assembly on 14 February 1980 and assented by the President and published in the Gazette on 20 February 1980. It came into operation on 6 October 1980 by Proclamation No. 2 of 1980 made by the President on 1 October 1980, and published in the Gazette of the same day. The amendments included here are: - Labour (Amendment) Act 1984, Act No. 9 of 1984; - Public Service Appellate Tribunal act 1984, act No. 17 of 1984; - Constitution (Amendment) Order 1987, Order No. 38 of 1987; - Constitution (Amendment) Act 1988, Act No. 1 of 1988; - Constitution (Amendment) Act 1990, Act No. 23 of 1990; - Constitution (Amendment) Act 1991, Act No. 1 of 1991; - Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1991, Act No. 12 of 1991; - Constitution (Amendment) (No.3) Act 1991, Act No. 35 of 1991; - Constitution (Amendment) (No. 4) Act 1991, Act No. 36 of 1991; - Elections Law (Amendment) Act 1991, Act No. 11 of 1992; - Constitution (Amendment) Act 1993, Act No. 21 of 1993; - Constitution (Amendment) Act 1995, Act No. 15 of 1995; 2 of 2000; 11 of 2000; 14 of 2000; 17 of 2000; 3-8 of 2001; 5 of 2003; 10 of 2003; 16 of 2004; 24 of 2006; 22 of 2007; 5 of 2009. Amendments not included in this version are the amendments relating to schedule 3 (Article 222A) which can be found under related documents (Constitution (Amendment) Act 2015 and Constitution (Amendment) Act 2016).
