Freedom of the press is unrestricted and media offer a variety of political viewpoints. Journalists operate in a relatively open environment. Four private newspapers compete with four political party journals. There is one state-owned and one independent radio station. Citizens enjoy unrestricted access to the Internet, cable television outlets, and regional radio broadcasts. All media outlets are free to publish without constraint, and all express views opposing government policies; however, the state-owned radio station functions under a government-appointed board that exerts some political influence over content and editorial stances.
